Praying Out Loud

Bible verses about praying out loud

There is nothing wrong with praying out loud, but it should never be done to impress others and be seen by people. Don’t be like the hypocrite Pharisees who used public praying as a way to show off. All our prayers should be with humility and they should be Christ centered. For the most part among believers the problem is not trying to show off.

The problem is fear to pray out loud around others and it is something I have struggled with. You may have to pray out loud in front of everyone at church, at the dinner table, in front of your spouse, kids, friends, when evangelizing, etc.

When you’re at home it’s always easy, but when you’re around others for some people it can be hard. If you’re a Christian who struggles with this. Just calm down and pray regularly. Sometimes we over think things. You don’t have to be fancy and do a long prayer.

Don’t worry about what people think just talk to your Father. Practice praying out loud by yourself and you will see it’s not hard. Ask God to help you. Rely on the power of the Holy Spirit. Continually practice, be bold, and be confident in the Lord and your words will start flowing.

What does the Bible say?

1. Ephesians 5:20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

2. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

3. 2 Thessalonians 1:3 We ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love all of you have for one another is increasing.

4. 1 Corinthians 14:16 Otherwise when you are praising God in the Spirit, how can someone else, who is now put in the position of an inquirer, say “Amen” to your thanksgiving, since they do not know what you are saying?

Do it all for his glory

5. 1 Corinthians 10:31 So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything to the glory of God.

6. Colossians 3:17 Everything you say or do should be done in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

11. Isaiah 41:13  For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.

Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

16. Matthew 23:5 Everything they do is done for people to see: They make their phylacteries wide and the tassels on their garments long;

Bible examples

20. Hebrews 5:7 While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue him from death. And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God.

21. Matthew 26:39 He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.”

The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’ “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’ “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
