Unforgiveness

Bible verses about unforgiveness

The sin of unforgiveness puts many people on the path to hell. If God can forgive you for your deepest darkest sins why can’t you forgive others for the smallest things? You repent and ask God to forgive you, but you can’t do the same. The things people don’t want to forgive others for are things they have done themselves. He slandered me I can’t forgive Him. Well have you ever slandered someone before?

25 Important Bible Verses About Unforgiveness

How about the things you think in your mind towards someone when they make you mad. Evidence of true faith in Christ is that your life and way of thinking will change. We are forgiven much so we must forgive much. Pride is the main reason for people holding grudges.

There are no exceptions. Did King Jesus hold a grudge? He had every right to, but He didn’t. Scripture tells us to love and forgive everyone even our enemies. Love does no harm and it overlooks an offense.

Love does not keep bringing up old conflicts while trying to hide it behind a joke. When you hold on to things in your heart it creates bitterness and hate. God does stop listening to prayers because of unforgiveness. I know sometimes it is hard, but confess your sins, lose the pride, ask for help, and be forgiving. Don’t go to sleep with anger. Unforgiveness never hurts the other person. It only hurts you. Cry out to God and allow Him to work in you to remove anything harmful that is brewing in your heart.

Christian quotes about unforgiveness

Unforgiveness is like taking poison but expecting someone else to die.

To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you. C.S. Lewis

Unforgiveness is choosing to stay trapped in a jail cell of bitterness, serving time for someone else’s crime

“When boiled down to its essence, unforgiveness is hatred. John R. Rice

If God can forgive you and remove your sin debt, then why can’t you forgive others?

1. Matthew 18:23-35 “Therefore, the Kingdom of Heaven can be compared to a king who decided to bring his accounts up to date with servants who had borrowed money from him. In the process, one of his debtors was brought in who owed him millions of dollars. He couldn’t pay, so his master ordered that he be sold—along with his wife, his children, and everything he owned—to pay the debt. “But the man fell down before his master and begged him, ‘Please, be patient with me, and I will pay it all. Then his master was filled with pity for him, and he released him and forgave his debt. “But when the man left the king, he went to a fellow servant who owed him a few thousand dollars. He grabbed him by the throat and demanded instant payment. “His fellow servant fell down before him and begged for a little more time. ‘Be patient with me, and I will pay it,’ he pleaded. But his creditor wouldn’t wait. He had the man arrested and put in prison until the debt could be paid in full. “When some of the other servants saw this, they were very upset. They went to the king and told him everything that had happened. Then the king called in the man he had forgiven and said, ‘You evil servant! I forgave you that tremendous debt because you pleaded with me. Shouldn’t you have mercy on your fellow servant, just as I had mercy on you? Then the angry king sent the man to prison to be tortured until he had paid his entire debt. “That’s what my heavenly Father will do to you if you refuse to forgive your brothers and sisters from your heart.”

2. Colossians 3:13 Be tolerant of one another and forgive each other if anyone has a complaint against another. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, you also should forgive.

Can you go to hell for unforgiveness?

All sin leads to hell. However, Jesus came to pay the penalty for sin and remove the barrier between us and the Father. We are saved by grace through faith in Christ alone. What we have to understand about Matthew 6:14-15 is this, how can someone who has truly experienced forgiveness by God, refuse to forgive others? Our transgressions before a holy God are infinitely worse than what others have done to us.

Unforgiveness reveals a heart that has not been radically changed by the power of the Holy Spirit. Let me also say this. Unforgiveness does not mean we will still be friends with someone who is harmful to us nor am I saying it’s easy. For some it’s a struggle that they have to give to the Lord daily.

Matthew 6:14-15 is not saying that it won’t be a struggle or that you’re not going to cry your eyes out at times because you’re struggling with hate. It’s saying that a true Christian will want to forgive because he himself has been forgiven in a greater way and though he struggles, He gives his struggle to the Lord. “Lord I can’t forgive on my own. Lord I struggle to forgive, you help me.”

24. Matthew 6:14-15 For if you forgive others their sins, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, your Father will not forgive you your sins.

25. Matthew 7:21-23 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord!’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of My Father in heaven. On that day many will say to Me, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in Your name, drive out demons in Your name, and do many miracles in Your name? Then I will announce to them, ‘I never knew you! Depart from Me, you lawbreakers!’

Bonus

1 John 4:20-21 If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother.
