Children Being A Blessing

Bible verses about children being a blessing

It’s been said repeatedly that children are the most precious gift. There are people who believe this, and there are some—likely without children—who don’t really see the great magnitude of this belief. God blesses us with children in numerous ways. Here’s how God can use one’s children to be the greatest blessing a parent could ever have.

17 Important Bible Verses About Children Being A Blessing

FIRST, WE ARE GOD’S CHILDREN

  1. “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” ~Romans 8:14
  2. “For in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God.” ~Galatians 3:26

The word of God says that we become His children when receive the Holy Spirit and follow Him. How do we receive the Holy Spirit? By having faith in God, believing that He sent His only Son to take our punishment by dying for our sins so we can serve Him with our lives and reap everlasting life. Just as we were naturally born of a woman, we are spiritually born of faith; just by believing! As God’s children, we are washed with the blood of the Lamb (Jesus) and our sins are forgiven therefore, we appear holy in God’s sight.

  1. “Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.” ~Luke 15:10

Every time a sinner comes to repentance, the angels of Heaven rejoice! Just like a mother looks upon her newborn child for the first time with overwhelming affection and joy, God looks at us the same exact way when we are born into the Spirit as born-again believers. He is overjoyed with your spiritual birth! Especially because it’s a decision you’ve made on your own.

  1. “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” ~John 14:15
  2. “For the Lord disciplines those He loves, and he punishes each one He accepts as His child.” ~Hebrews 12:6

So as a child of the Most High, it is our responsibility and privilege to bring joy to God by worshipping Him with our entire lives (and not just part of it) and use our talents and spiritual gifts to expand His Kingdom and bring lost souls to Him. We can only do this with the power of the Holy Spirit. God will reward us when we please Him and put a smile on His face, but He will surely punish us when we disobey Him and go against His will. Be assured that God punishes those who He loves and calls His children, so be thankful for this divine punishment because God is only shaping you into His character.

HOW GOD BLESSES US WITH OUR OWN CHILDREN

  1. “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” ~Proverbs 22:6
  2. “Repeat [God’s commands] again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.” ~Deuteronomy 6:7

Children are a blessing from God because He gives us the privilege of raising a human being into people that not only we want to see as believers, but mainly what God wants to see. Although parenting is not at all an easy job, we can count on God to be our Guidance and to use us to bless our children with unconditional love and resources. We also have the privilege of raising children to become true worshippers who value a relationship with God.

  1. “And ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” ~Ephesians 6:4

Parents are responsible for raising (their own) people who will share the world with other people, so whether they be blessing or a burden to others, parents are still responsible—that is, until the child is old enough to take responsibility for their own actions. Remember that when the time comes when you let your children out into the world on their own, you will see if your rearing really paid off; you will see how well you’re doing with your child based on their interaction with the world and with other people.

  1. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.” ~3 John 1:4
  2. “A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish son is a sorrow to his mother.” ~Proverbs 10:1

Successful children bring joy to their parents. I’ve always heard “a mother is as happy as her saddest child.” That speaks volumes. It basically means that a parent is as happy as their own children. A mother’s heart is full when her children are living a prosperous, healthy, and happy life. The opposite is also true when one has a troubled child who can’t seem to get his or her own life together. This makes it difficult for the parent to have peace with their own lives because their children are their life!

  1. “For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children: That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children: That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:” ~Psalm 78:5-7
  2. “And in your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice.” ~Genesis 22:18

Children bless us by carrying on the legacy we leave behind. These verses are both self-explanatory, but I must add this one thing: we must instill the fear of God and the Word in them so they can learn how to live by God’s commandments, know how to worship Him, how to expand His Kingdom, and how to have a thriving relationship with Christ. Our children will eventually show the world what Christlike character looks like and what real love looks like. Whatever legacy God wants you to leave behind in this world must be passed down to our children. They are there to inherit and perpetuate that legacy and God’s generational blessings.

Just look at the powerful lineage that God begun through Abraham and Sarah. God set a testimony and legacy though their offspring to ultimately give us Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world!

  1. “When a woman is giving birth, she has sorrow because her hour has come, but when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world.” ~John 16:21

A great blessing that comes from having a child—especially as a mother—is the intense love and joy that overcomes you when your child is finally brought into this world. This love you feel will make you want to protect this child, pray over them, and give them the greatest life that you can and let God do the rest in upbringing that child. Just as a parent falls deeply in love with their child, God is madly in love with us…His children and desires to protect us the same way if we allow Him.

  1. “Her children arise up, and call her blessed…” ~Proverbs 31:28

Children are also a blessing because they can be a great support to their parents! If you teach them how to have respect, fear, and love for you, their authority, they will want the best for you. They will support your dreams, goals, and ambitions; this can also be good motivation. As a mother whose heart is full because of her prosperous children, she will also be enriched with her children loving her, supporting her, respecting her, and doing favors for her.

  1. “But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.” ~Mark 10:14-15

Children bless us by the lessons they indirectly teach us: having childlike faith and a willingness to learn. Children are quick to believe simply because they don’t know to not have faith. They come into this world ready to learn and soak up what we teach them. It’s not until they grow older when they naturally begin to worry. Having fears, doubts, and second guesses comes with unfavorable experiences. So, if you have a child who has lived a good life so far, it’s easy for them to believe the positive because, chances are, that’s what they know at such a young age.

In the same way children are quick to receive, say, the Kingdom of God, we must be childlike and be quick to believe in God’s eternal promises. As children of God, we must have full assurance of our salvation.

Children are very trusting until we teach them to avoid strangers. So, in the same way, we must be trusting to God and receive Him with the quickness. We must also be teachable, ready to be saturated with God’s Word and wisdom.

  1. “Grandchildren are a crown of the aged, and the glory of children is their fathers.” ~Proverbs 17:6

Seeing our children growing up and becoming fruitful by bringing their fresh seed into the world is a joy for parents to see. This makes for not only a blessed parent, but a blessed grandparent as well. Grandparents are endowed with the wisdom to teach their grandchildren and the experience to share with them and warn them about the world, different kinds of people, and different situations that life bring. This is a powerful role in a young child’s life, so embrace this God-given assignment! Children value and love their grandparents.

  1. “He gives the childless woman a family,
    making her a happy mother.” ~Psalm 113:9

Praise the Lord!

Lastly, even if we don’t have children naturally (blood children), God still blesses us with our own by means of adoption, a teaching career, or just by being a leader and feeling parental and protective over your flock. Oprah Winfrey doesn’t have biological children, but she considers all the young women she helps as her children because she feels maternal over them all and a strong need to protect and nurture them. In the same way, if a woman is not meant to bear children (because it isn’t God’s will for all women), God will still bless her with the gift of being a mother to as many young women as He wills.

Yes children are a blessing and are a gift. And so many take their children for granted and don’t realize it. But once you lose a child it hits different and deeply and a pain unlike any other..
