Should Christians have insurance?
The thought of not having insurance because of being Christian is ridiculous. There are many Bible verses that warn us of being foolish and being unprepared. Is God protecting His children? Of course, God does protect us from things that we do not see all the time, but that does not mean that we don’t prepare ourselves nor does that mean that we are faithless if we do.
I pray that God keeps me safe and He does. However, that does not mean I will never run into trials. That does not mean I can never get sick, break my leg, get into an auto accident, etc. I remember a story of Christian parents who refused to take their extremely sick child to the hospital because they wanted to have faith that God would heal their child and later the child died due to the ignorance of the parents. What testimony is that to the world? It just shows an extremely unwise decision. Sometimes God heals us through physicians. Car insurance is a great thing to have especially if you have teen drivers. Whether God leads you to get full coverage or liability is a different story. However, we shouldn’t be opposed to having health or auto insurance.
How to save on auto insurance?
The best way to save on auto insurance is never to settle. Make sure that you compare quotes with various different insurance carriers. This can end up saving you 10% or more. Also, make sure that you are getting all the discounts that you are eligible for.
Here are some verses that teach us about the importance of being wise and making preparations.
Proverbs 19:3 “When a man’s folly brings his way to ruin, his heart rages against the LORD.”
Luke 14:28 “For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it?”
1 Timothy 5:8 “But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.”
Proverbs 6:6-8 “Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.”
Proverbs 27:12 “The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.”
Proverbs 26:16 “A sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven people who answer discreetly.”
