What does the Bible say about the Lion of Judah?
Jesus is the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. In Genesis 49:9, Jacob calls his son Judah a “lion’s cub,” foreshadowing the powerful figure who would emerge from Judah’s line. Lions evoke images of strength, fierceness, courage, leadership, and majesty—the undisputed kings of the jungle, reigning with mighty authority. This imagery points to the Messiah. In Revelation 5:5, an elder declares, “Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the Tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.” This victorious Lion is our Lord Jesus Christ. He came so that we might have life, dying for our sins and rising from the grave. Let us praise the Lion of the Tribe of Judah, our triumphant King!
