Opposite Of Sin

Many people wonder what is the opposite of sin? Before we can answer this question let’s find out exactly what sin is.

Sin is the violation of God’s law. Sin is to miss the mark.

1 John 3:4 Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness.

Romans 4:15 because the law brings wrath. And where there is no law there is no transgression.

1 John 5:17 All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.

Hebrews 8:10 This is the covenant I will establish with the people of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.

God demands perfection. Something we could never gain on our own.

Matthew 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Deuteronomy 18:13 You must be blameless before the LORD your God.

Righteousness and virtue would be good antonyms for sin.

Philippians 1:11 Filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

Romans 4:5 And to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness,

2 Timothy 2:22 Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts.

Jesus solved the sin problem

Jesus Christ who is God in the flesh volunteered and said, “I’ll do it. I’ll die for them.” He lived the perfect righteous life we couldn’t live and willfully died for us. He bore our sins on the cross. A sacrifice like no other. He died, He was buried, and He was resurrected for our sins.

2 Corinthians 5:20-21 We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Romans 3:21-24 But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,

John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

Catholicism and other false religions teach works, but Christianity says you are not good enough to work for your salvation. Jesus paid the price. He is our only claim to Heaven.

God calls everybody to repent and believe the gospel of Christ.

We don’t obey Christ because it saves us. We obey Him because He saved us. We don’t desire to willfully and purposely sin like we used to because we have new desires for Christ.

Mark 1:15 “The time promised by God has come at last!” he announced. “The Kingdom of God is near! Repent of your sins and believe the Good News!”
