Recently I wrote a post about cheating on tests, but now let’s discuss cheating in a relationship. Is it wrong? Whether it is sex, oral, kissing, or willingly trying to do something with a partner that is not yours cheating is cheating. There is a saying if it feels like cheating than it most likely is.
From what the Bible tells us cheating is indeed a sin. 1 Corinthians 13:4-6 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
Matthew 5:27-28 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.‘ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Adultery – Obviously if it has anything to do regarding sex it is a sin because you’re not supposed to have pre-marital sex. If you were married it would still be a sin because you’re supposed to have sex with your wife or husband and your wife or husband only.
New Creation- If you gave your life to Jesus Christ you are a new creation. If you used to cheat before accepting Jesus you can’t go back to your old sinful life. Christians don’t follow the world we follow Christ. If the world is cheating on their boyfriends and girlfriends we don’t imitate that.
Ephesians 4:22-24 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
2 Corinthians 5:17 This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!
John 1:11 Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God.
Christians are the light and the devil is darkness. How can you mix light with darkness? Everything in the light is righteous and pure. Everything in the darkness is evil and not pure. Adultery is evil and cheating has nothing to do with the light whether you’re having sex or not you know what you’re doing is wrong and it shouldn’t be done. If you’re supposed to get married tomorrow and you make out with another woman on purpose can you really tell yourself well we are not married anyway? Seems dark to me. What kind of example are you setting for yourself and others?
1 John 1:6-7 This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all. But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.
2 Corinthians 6:14 Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?
Deception- One of the 7 things God hates is liars. If you’re cheating you’re basically living a lie and deceiving your boyfriend or girlfriend. As Christians we are not to deceive people and lie. The first sin was because the devil deceived Eve.
Colossians 3:9-10 Do not lie to one another, for you have put off the old self with its habits 10 and have put on the new self. This is the new being which God, its Creator, is constantly renewing in his own image, in order to bring you to a full knowledge of himself.
Proverbs 12:22 Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who act faithfully are his delight.
Proverbs 12:19-20 Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue lasts only a moment. Deceit is in the hearts of those who plot evil, but those who promote peace have joy.
Reminders
James 4:17 So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.
Luke 8:17 For all that is secret will eventually be brought into the open, and everything that is concealed will be brought to light and made known to all.
Galatians 5:19-23 When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!
Galatians 6:7-8 Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.
