Who Is Lucifer’s Daughter In The Bible?

A popular television show called Lucifer depicts Lucifer Morningstar leaving hell and moving to Los Angeles (the city of angels) to study humans. He joins an LA detective to solve crimes in the city. In the TV show, Lucifer marries his detective partner, Cloe, and they have a daughter named Rory. Although the show is filled with conversations about heaven and hell, it’s not based on Scripture but is the creation of some screenwriter’s imagination. The show’s depiction of Lucifer could not be further from Biblical truth.

Consequently, some believe this depiction of Lucifer and his wife and child is Biblical. Here is what Scripture tells us about Lucifer and whether he has a wife or a daughter.

Who is Lucifer?

In Genesis, the first book of the Hebrew scriptures, we read about God’s creation of the world,  Adam and Eve. God declares all his creation good. But, in Genesis 3, an evil creature suddenly appears as a snake, tempting Adam and Eve to disobey God. The mystery in this story is how this evil creature came to be. Who was he, and where did he come from?  Throughout scripture, this creature is called by different names, including Lucifer or Morning Star.  Other names given to this evil character include

  • The Devil- This name is used frequently in the New Testament. In the Greek, the word is translated as “diabolos.”
  • Satan—This name is given to an evil character called the prince of evil spirits. He is called an adversary. The word comes from the Hebrew word “satan,” meaning adversary.
  • Beelzebub: Another name for this creature in the New Testament is the prince of demons
  • The father of lies
  • A lying spirit
  • The evil one
  • The tempter

The Bible doesn’t explain why Lucifer is evil. But we do know that at creation, Adam and Eve were sinless, while Satan, who was already in the garden, was crafty and deceitful and bent on causing Adam and Eve to doubt God’s goodness and power. We get indications of his hatred for God in different scriptures.

And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling—these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day. (Jude 6 NIV)

The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.(1 John 3:8 NIV)

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. (1 Peter 5:8 NIV)

Was Lucifer good or bad?

Some say the Devil was a good angel who, in his pride, rebelled against God. This caused him to be expelled from God’s presence and thrown into darkness with a league of fallen angels following him. Others say that Satan was never good. However, the mystery remains about how this evil creature was given access to the Garden of Eden at the world’s creation and allowed to tempt Adam and Eve.

In response to how Satan became evil, John Piper said

God and his goodness and wisdom and power are the only ultimate, eternal realities. Evil is somehow derivative. It is secondary, without God being a sinner. Concerning all of that, virtually all Christians agree on.

Piper goes on to say that no matter how Satan became evil, God is ultimately sovereign over everything. Nothing can come about unless God allows it. Even Satan’s fall was according to God’s plan, just like his plan to redeem us from our sins by Jesus’s death on the cross. God knew Jesus would die on our behalf because God is sovereign over all, just as he knew Adam and Eve would sin against him. He allowed this to happen, yet without sin. His purposes are always good and right, even when sin is involved. It’s hard for us to understand why God allows sin and wrongdoing, but he always has a plan and purpose both for his glory and our good.

We know Lucifer’s purpose is against God and his followers. Scripture warns us to be aware of his wiles.

Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. (1 Peter 5:8  ESV)

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. (Ephesians 6:11 ESV)

Lucifer does not have a daughter?

According to the Bible, Lucifer does not have a daughter. There is no mention anywhere in Scripture that he had any relatives. It does say he has some fallen angels or demons who follow him.

For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to chains of gloomy darkness to be kept until the judgment; (2 Peter 2:4 ESV)

And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.  (Revelation 12:9 ESV)

Where does the idea of Lucifer having a daughter come from?

There is no mention of Satan having a daughter in Christianity or any other religion. This idea of Lucifer having a daughter probably originated with Charles Godfrey Leland, who, in his writings, said that Lucifer had a daughter named Arcadia, a powerful witch and the goddess of all witches. Leland said Lucifer came from a long line of magical creatures, and his daughter followed him.  Leland’s writings have influenced modern-day pop culture followers who believe Lucifer had a daughter. Of course, the television show supports this erroneous belief.

As was said, the Bible never mentions Lucifer having a daughter or any relatives. In some cultures or beliefs, there is a figure called Lilith, who is portrayed as Adam’s first wife who turns into a demon. This has no basis in Biblical accounts and isn’t recognized by many.  In Satanism, the character of Lilith is considered to be the wife of Satan. Another demonic teaching suggests Lilith is a creature in the world of darkness but not necessarily Satan’s daughter.

In summary, the Bible is clear that Lucifer is evil and against God. How he existed in the Garden at creation is a mystery, but we know he was intent on tempting Adam and Eve to disobey God. However, throughout Scripture, Lucifer’s wife or daughter is never mentioned.

Who are the children of God and children of the devil, according to the Bible?

According to Scripture, the children of God are those who have put their faith in Jesus Christ and his work on the cross for their sins. According to Scripture, we were separated from God, without a way to come to him because of our sins. Sin is living life on your terms rather than God’s ways.

Have you ever noticed how no one needs to teach a small child to be selfish or yell, “Mine!” It comes naturally to all humans. Our first parents, Adam and Eve, chose to disobey God, which set into motion all humans’ propensity to sin.  Jesus’ death on the cross met God’s demands, allowing us to know God and call him our Father.  Jesus destroyed Satan’s power over us.

Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery. (Hebrews 2:14-15 ESV)

Jesus’ death not only provided us with forgiveness for our sins, but his rising from the dead put to death once and for all death’s power over us. When we are a child of God, he promises us life after death.

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life.[a] Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. (John 11:25-26 ESV)

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23 ESV)

As a child of God, you have

For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,  and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. (Romans 8:14-14 ESV)

Children of the devil is anyone who disobeys God and follow their own desires. These are people who know the truth but turn away in rebellion.

By this, it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother. (1 John 3:10 ESV)

Trusting in Jesus

When we trust Jesus, we believe he is who he said he was. We believe we’re sinners in need of a savior. We have faith that he is God’s Son, who died on the cross for our sins. We believe we are saved by grace, not because of anything we’ve done. Trusting Jesus means surrendering our life to him to lead and guide us. We have confidence he will take care of us and provide for us. Trust is an action word. When we trust God, we aren’t passive but learn to trust God and follow Jesus. We do this through

Conclusion

There is a lot of wrong thinking about Lucifer. Legends, pop culture, horror movies, and television shows have skewed who he is and what he does. The Bible accurately tells us who this evil creature was from the beginning of creation. According to Scripture, Lucifer never had a wife or a daughter. He has many names describing his character and purposes against God and all who follow Him.
