Bible verses about storing up treasures in Heaven
Where do you lay your treasures in Heaven or on earth? Is your life about giving and increasing your riches in Heaven or is it about buying the newest stuff, buying a bigger house, and spending your money on things that won’t always be here?
Whether you are upper class, middle class, or lower middle class you are rich compared to the homeless and people in other countries. In America we have it too good. Most people can live on less, but everybody wants the bigger, newer, and expensive things.
People want to compete with others and show off rather than helping the homeless and lending money. People would rather splurge than help people in other countries who are eating mud pies. Everything you have is for God. Nothing is for you. It’s not about your best life now. The prosperity gospel will send you to hell. Deny yourself and use God’s money wisely because you will be held accountable. Refrain from greed and give God glory in what you do with your money.
What does the Bible say?
1. Matthew 6:19-20 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. “But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal.”
2. Matthew 19:21 “Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
3. Luke 12:19-21 “And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”‘ “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself? “This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.”
4. Luke 12:33 “Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys.”
5. Luke 18:22 “When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
6. 1 Timothy 6:17-19 “As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.”
7. Luke 14:33 “So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple.”
Serve Christ by serving others
8. Matthew 25:35-40 “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
9. Revelation 22:12 “Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done.”
More blessed to give
10. Acts 20:35 “In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ “
11. Proverbs 19:17 “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them for what they have done.”
12. Matthew 6:33 “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
13. Hebrews 6:10 “For God is not unjust. He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers, as you still do.”
Loving money
14. 1 Timothy 6:10 “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.”
15. Luke 12:15 “Then He said to them, “Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions.”
Advice
16. Colossians 3:1-3 “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.”
